Hey all, welcome to my Dan Vas Shopify Freedom Course review!
If you’ve been thinking of going into dropshipping, I’m sure you’ve come across some of Dan’s videos on YouTube. He does give a lot of free information there, that is suitable for beginners.
He claims to have master the art of Amazon FBA and eCommerce in the one year since he started. And he now aims to teach others how to do the same too, by taking a “spin” of the traditional way of dropshipping.
But is the “spin” that he’s so very proud of is really feasible for beginners? There are definitely a few things that you need to know before jumping into his course and doing his “branded” dropshipping technique.
Before I start my review, just a quick disclaimer that I’m not an affiliate of Dan Vas or any of his courses, so I’m not getting any money if you decide to still buy the course.
This comes from my own third-party perspective, from someone who’s tried dropshipping for a year before.
Now, if you’re wondering if Dan Vas’s Shopify Freedom Course is for you, then read on till the end.
|Shopify Freedom Course Summary|
Product: Dropshipping course
Founder: Dan Vas
Recommended: Not really
Summary: Shopify Freedom Course is a dropshipping course created by Dan Vas, a young entrepreneur who’s had success with his Amazon and Shopify stores before and now aims to teach others on how to do the same too.
Dan Vas’s course is focusing on branded dropshipping, with a bit of twist when comes to sourcing suppliers.
But will this “twist” become the make it or break it point for your dropshipping success? Let’s figure it out together.
What Is Dropshipping?
Dropshipping is when you promote and sell a third-party product without handling the product creation, inventory and shipping.
When an order comes into your store, instead of wrapping and shipping out the products, the wholesaler or supplier will be the one that does the fulfilment.
Therefore, you only really need to focus on the front end and making sure sales are coming in for you to get your “cut”.
The cut is the difference on the retail price minus the wholesale price. If you’d prefer to learn this more through a video and animation, you can watch the video below:
Important to note: Please don’t get misled with screenshots of sales that these “gurus” are making. Those are sales numbers. It’s typical for dropshipping businesses to only take home 1-20% from the sales.
What Is Shopify Freedom Course?
Shopify Freedom Course is focusing on “Branded Dropshipping” which means you’ll learn how to put your own name and brand to the products that you sell with a fast shipping time – which is not how other dropshipping courses teach.
But does that mean Dan Vas is the one who came up with the idea? No, he’s not.
*cough* Gymshark *cough* MVMT *cough*
Even back in 2016 when I was starting a dropshipping store, Franklin Hatchett, the creator of Ecom Elites course has already mentioned this technique to scale a Shopify store even further.
Though not many courses are focusing on branding, Dan Vas’s Shopify Freedom Course isn’t the only one. Ecom Elites also goes over this.
Now before I move on to go over the founder of this course, I just want to go through some of the claims made on the sales page that you need to be AWARE of:
- Over 75 Hours+ of Step By Step Video
This is VERY misleading. It’s not 75 hours. It’s 75 videos that in total are just about 10 hours long.
- Unlimited Mentorship With Dan Vas
Umm… no. I don’t think he should advertise this when it’s very hard for him to mentor tens of thousands of his students alone. There are complaints of his past students not being able to get a proper reply from him even when they reached out to him privately.
Mostly, you will be able to get some feedback or mentorship in his private Facebook group/community but don’t expect him to come and help on every question asked.
Now that I got it out of the way, let’s take a look at who Dan Vas is and whether or not he’s a scam..
Who Is Dan Vas?
Dan Vas is a young 25-year-old entrepreneur from Canada who claims to have made 7 figure sales success with his Amazon FBA venture and dropshipping store.
Just so you know, there aren’t any proof that he’s made all that money though.
That said, it doesn’t mean he doesn’t have money. I’m sure he’s able to get multiple income sources looking at his lavish lifestyle that he boasts on his social media accounts. My guess is that he now makes more money with his courses, like other gurus out there.
By the way, I have never cringed so much looking at his shot at the beach, in the water, while holding a laptop.
That’s just not the reality, Dan. And it’s also not a smart thing to do.
If that’s someone who you like looking up to, with many lavish boasting lifestyle shots, then be my guest. I’m just someone who prefers the likes of Ramit Sethi, a millionaire with very little (if there’s any) lavish shots and tons of useful guide and info on his social media. So..yeah.
Anyway, Dan does have a large following on his YouTube account, almost 300,000 subscribers at the time of writing and over 20,000 followers on Instagram. He does give valuable content on YouTube, so if you want to check him out (if you haven’t done so), be my guest.
What Makes Shopify Freedom Course Unique?
I’m sure you already know this, but in essence, Dan Vas is focusing on Branded Dropshipping, meaning that you’re branding your products properly to ship to customers instead of dropshipping by orders from AliExpress.
He explains the concept on the video below:
But what if you don’t have the means to buy products in bulk or not sure whether the products will sell? Well, you will then have to start with the typical dropshipping first.
How Much Does Shopify Freedom Course Cost?
Shopify Freedom Course costs $497. If you go to the sales page, it says that the course is going to be $1,200 soon and the normal price was $997.
I’ve seen this for a few months now. The price is still the same.
It’s marketing gimmick – okay, Dan.
The course does have a money back guarantee though it’s a bit confusing.
- To be eligible for a FULL refund, you need to email them within 14 days and have ACCESSED (not VIEWED) LESS than 40% of the course.
- If you have accessed over 40% of the module, or it’s been more than 14 days since you’ve purchased, you may still be eligible for a refund if you satisfy:
What’s In Shopify Freedom Course?
Module #1: Introduction
Just some introduction that Dan gives an explanation on what the course is all about and how you’re going to learn it. Online courses will usually have this part.
He also touches on mindset – which I personally always think it’s useful. It can either be at the beginning of the course or at the end. But trust me, for someone who have tried multiple ways of earning money on the side, side hustling everyday, your mindset is the key to unlocking a lot of your potential.
So if you do have the time, invest a bit of time really understand the mindset that you need to keep on going.
Module #2: Intelligent Product Research
Dropshipping is always about finding the winning products. And in this module, Dan gives out good strategies and different techniques that you can do to find those products.
They are not entirely new but if you’re a beginner, you might have never heard of this technique before so it could be very useful for you to start with.
Module #3: Finding A High-Quality Supplier
Here is where you’ll find how to get your ideal supplier.
Since Dan is teaching “branded dropshipping”, having a specific supplier that has a warehouse in the US is key. But if you’re not sure how to start, no worries, Dan will explain it more in the course.
Once you’ve gotten a supplier, Dan also teaches you on how to build good relationship with them.
Module #4: Creating Your Store
This is a pretty thorough Shopify store setup lesson. You can learn how to get a Shopify hosting till setting up your abandoned cart emails.
Even without this module, Dan created a video for free on YouTube going through the process of setting up a Shopify store – it’s a longgg video.
But of course, there are tips and tricks that Dan didn’t mention on YouTube that you can find in the course (one way for him to sell this course..).
Even though it’s detailed, other courses’ modules in setting up Shopify stores are also pretty in-depth. Just saying.
Module #5: Zero to Expert With Facebook Ads
If you’re new to FB ads, don’t worry. You’re going to learn how to set up a Facebook campaign from scratch, including setting up your Facebook fanpage, Business Account as well as Ad Account.
Module #6: Scaling Facebook Ads From 6 to 7 Figures
Once you’ve gotten success at testing our your Facebook Ads, Dan shows you 5 different scaling techniques that can help to take your winning campaigns even further.
You’ll appreciate this module once you’re more comfortable with Facebook Ads.
Module #7: Elite Influencer Marketing
You will learn how to leverage influencer marketing here. If you don’t know how to get started, Dan teaches you on how to find the right influencers for you store, how to reach out to them and create good relationship.
An okay module for you to expand your marketing efforts. Influencer marketing nowadays to me is a hit and miss. But you can definitely try it out.
Module #8: Store Automation & Scaling to 1M/Year
Some of the things that Dan mentioned in this module I think should have been taught in the very beginning and even when you’re starting out like knowing how to properly manage your cash flow.
But some things might only interest you once you get consistent and sustainable sales with good profits. Then you can branch out to hiring VA (virtual assistant) etc.
Bonus: Millionaire Mindset Secrets
Dan is a big guy on mindset but I don’t think this bonus course is more than $2,000 worth.
That said, if you want to know more on how to get your mindset fixed like a millionaire, you can learn one thing or two. Honestly, the things that he taught you here are the summary of some of the famous books out there.
If you’re a non-fiction reader, you might know exactly what he’s talking about here and won’t think this bonus worth more than $2,000.
I do wish he could actually swap this bonus with perhaps another traffic module like Google Ads or SEO.
What I Like About Shopify Freedom Course
1) Multiple Facebook Ads Scaling Strategies
He does give multiple Facebook Ads scaling strategies that you can test on your store. You don’t need to do everything at the same time because that will definitely eat up your budget. So just try one then the other.
But it’s still nice to have everything under one course instead of having to search for some on YouTube.
What I DON’T Like About Shopify Freedom Course
1) Not Worth The Price
I know he’s teaching something “new”, but that something “new” isn’t exactly new and definitely not worth paying almost $500 for when there are other better dropshipping courses out there are selling at half of that price.
2) Not Focusing on Traffic
He shares Facebook Ads strategy with Instagram influencers – which now have been a must to any dropshipping course. But building traffic longterm (like building a brand longterm) goes a lot further than only focusing on Facebook Ads and Instagram.
He didn’t touch anything on Google Ads or SEO or even the implementation of chatbots that can truly help with eCommerce stores.
Is Shopify Freedom Course A Scam?
No, Shopify Freedom Course isn’t a scam.
You will still get access to the course and the learning materials when you pay $497.
That said, as mentioned earlier, he does give out claims that I know he can’t keep like “Private Mentorship”. He shouldn’t promise such things if he can’t actually live up to it.
And a very misleading “75 hours+” claim is also extremely misleading. I hope people will take the time to review his course before buying and realize that it’s only 75 videos for a total of 10-about hours long.
In conclusion, the course can help you get started with dropshipping. But it’s not the best dropshipping course out there.
In fact, with so many dropshipping courses out there, I just realized how saturated the market for dropshipping has become. And I have personally don’t find it as lucrative as a few years before when I had first started.
That brings me to my next question.
Is Dropshipping Still Worth It?
I know that eCommerce is still growing year by year, especially now that many of us are stuck inside the house, eCommerce has truly changed the game for us.
That said, it doesn’t mean many solo stores like dropshipping can thrive under this eCommerce boom simply because there are giants in the industry like Amazon that can guarantee shipping time and offer a lot more variety within a single receipt.
Here are 3 reasons why I no longer think dropshipping busines is still worth it:
1) Only When You Have Capital
Dropshipping is really NOT for someone who are strapped with money. There are so many other expenses that you will need to pay such as:
– Shopify hosting
– Domain name
– Transaction Fee
– Facebook Ads
– Instagram Influencer
– Additional paid apps
So unless you have AT LEAST $2,500 to spare to start this business model, dropshipping unfortunately is not for you. You’ll be spending at least $2,000 to get started with Facebook Ads – and that won’t even guarantee any sales coming in.
2) Vicious Cycle
If you argue that you will be able to take home $2,000/mo if you get to make $10,000/mo, I’m sorry to break it down to you but that $2,000 will need to be re-invested to find another winning product and be spent for Facebook Ads testing.
This is one of the biggest reasons I quit dropshipping.
A lot of beginners are not aware of this vicious, vicious cycle.
3) Not The Best Business Model
As I’ve mentioned in 2021, dropshipping isn’t exactly the best business model out there. A lot of people already know the trick of “free product + shipping” and asking them to wait for 2-3 weeks for product delivery is a deal-breaker.
Put yourself in the customer shoe, will you go and buy a product from a store that will take 2-3 weeks to ship the products to you or you’d rather go to Amazon.com and get your products delivered the next day?
I’d go with Amazon.com. And that brings me to the next point.
A Better Way To Make Money
After I left dropshipping, I found a better way to make money online that is a lot more passive and won’t need me to fork out so much capital when first starting out.
I really wish I’d found this sooner.
I switched from doing a dropshipping business to affiliate marketing.
- It was free for me to get started
- I don’t need to be running ads all the time
- My traffic is organic, therefore a lot more sustainable
- I don’t need to handle refunds or customer service
- It’s much easier for me to do with a 9-5 job
But just how much can you earn from affiliate marketing?
See how a stay-at-home-mum student from my #1 recommended training platform was able to make $2K from her new website with a new affiliate offer.
We both went through the same training and you will too!
If you want to know how I was able to get started with affiliate marketing for free as a newbie, you can check out my short video here where I’ll take you through everything I did.
But if you want to do it too and get free training, here’s my FREE 7-day training where I’ll take you step by step on what to do each day.
The course is free, it’s free to get started and there’s no credit card details required.
