If you’re here, I’m sure you’ve heard of Vince Tan before and his masterclass or his other business courses – perhaps thinking of joining his classes. But the question here is that, is Vince Tan a scam?
Can you actually really trust this guy who’s known to selling very high priced ticket courses to his students?
Before you start forking up your hard-earned money to his online (or even offline) courses, let’s take a look at who Vince Tan is and whether or not he’s the guy that you want to be learning from.
First quick disclaimer is that, Vince Tan here is not the Vincent Tan from Berjaya corp.
And another disclaimer here is that I’m not by any means associated with Vince Tan. So I’m not profiting in any way, shape, or form should you decide to join and get his courses.
Anyway, without further ado, let’s get started!
Is Vince Tan a scam? Here’s the truth…
Here’s an overview what I’ll discuss in this Vince Tan review:

Who Is Vince Tan?
Vince Tan is a Malaysian entrepreneur, known to have built one of the fastest-growing digital marketing agencies in Malaysia.
He’s had a rather interesting childhood whereby he started his first web design company part-time back when he was still in high school.
The story was that he was able to “hack” the local telco company allowing him to access the internet in the US for free, back when it was still unavailable in Malaysia.
Being a “pioneer” of an internet user of his time, he did get ahead of learning a few tricks of spamming search engines (not exactly a sustainable trick) and later on launched online products that had claimed to be generating over $1million in sales within the first 7 days.
After he got married and had his children, he created Shock Media Studio, a digital marketing agency in Malaysia that’s still around today.
Vince Tan has a pretty impressive background.
But the question that I’ve always had reading up about Vince Tan is that – if he’s already very successful with his ventures and his investments in upcoming eCommerce businesses, why does he need to create multiple online courses/seminars/webinars every single year…?
Before I get into the conclusion of this Vince Tan review, let’s go through very briefly the different courses that he’s launched previously.
Vince Tan’s Courses Overview
1) Side Hustle Convention
This is the latest course that’s been promoted very heavily in 2021. It’s a masterclass where students will get to learn how to create a side income for beginners with little capital. Little is subjective here.
The whole masterclass is said to be free and you will get goodies when you join. Vince Tan mentioned here that he’s actually losing money creating this masterclass and his aim is to only help those who are currently struggling financially out there.
My personal take on this is that, if it’s very valuable, I don’t think you will need to attract with multiple goodies, a lucky draw, and a mystery gift for people to sign up.
Especially if you have special guest lineup (it’s a long lineup), that should be the attraction of itself.
If I were to look at other people’s free masterclass, they are valuable enough for users to sign up without having the need to be enticed with other gifts.
Again, my opinion.
2) Digital World Summit
This is one of the courses that was heavily promoted back in 2020.
It’s a course that’s designed for beginners and other small business owners alike to catapult their business idea to a full-fledged company.
Similar to Side Hustle Convention, this course also has multiple guest line-up – some of them like Sebastian Beja is also a guest here in Digital World Summit.
Though some of the lessons taught in DWS is slightly different than SHC, the essence is still similar in terms of marketing the products – learning Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, Google Ads as well as having the right business mindset.
That said, Digital World Summit is a paid course at RM299 or $100 USD.
Vince Tan has a number of other courses (online and offline) that I can’t possibly keep up with – and many of them are actually an upsell.
Before this review become very long-winded with detailed reviews of each of his courses, let’s get back to the question of the day.
Is Vince Tan A Scam? Can You Trust Him?
No, Vince Tan is not a scam.
BUT, that doesn’t mean I will give him my hard-earned money to enrol into his courses for a few reason.
1) He’s Ultimately A Businessman
Now there’s absolutely nothing wrong with him being a businessman. But you have to understand that no businessman spends his time for “fun”.
Time is an incredibly important resource for everyone but especially for successful businessmen. Vince Tan is no exception.
A free masterclass will be the first of the funnel for him to upsell you to his other courses. The reason why many of the lessons being touched in the masterclass are simply a brief one – for you to enroll in another course that can take you more in-depth.
I have worked with several business coaches to help them with their advertising strategies and many of them will offer free guide, free webinars, free masterclass as a way for them to generate leads.
They will either upsell for a paid course during the webinar itself or through an email follow up. Or even via phone as you’ll need to share your phone number with Vince Tan when signing up for his free masterclass.
If these businessmen really want to help people, they will work with a charity where they can also get a tax break.
See, nothing is for free.
2) Another Dan Lok?
I’m not exactly a fan of Dan Lok for all the reasons that are being shared in the video below.
Their marketing strategies are strikingly similar – to which I’m not a fan of.
It truly depends on you whether you’re someone who really wants to learn from him and being presented with upsells every step of the way.
It’s good for you to do some exercise in knowing what exactly you want to do as a side hustle, but to learn more in-depth when it comes to the marketing side of it, for example, there are many places where you can learn from at a more affordable price.
I’ve been a digital marketer for 5 years now and I started learning Google Ads from a $9.99 course on Udemy. I’m just saying you don’t need to make a hole in your wallet to learn things.
So Should You Get Any of His Courses?
If you’re someone who already has a business with a financially good standing and need the extra coaching to take your business to another level, by all means, learn from Vince Tan on how to scale.
I don’t doubt Vince Tan’s ability to create and scale businesses.
That said, I don’t think his courses are suited for beginners who have no idea where to start and with very little capital to spare.
You shouldn’t be using your whole savings or worse, be in debt to enroll yourself into a course, like the fellow below:
For someone who has been side hustling for years now and had taken many make-money-online courses, I can say that there are many other courses out there that you can take, that are free or much cheaper that can teach you step-by-step on how to make a side income.
That brings me to the next section.
