Is Ramit Sethi A Scam? Will He Really Teach You To Be Rich?

If you’ve heard of Ramit Sethi and thinking of joining one of his courses, you might be wondering “is Ramit Sethi a scam?”.

At least that’s what I usually thought of every time before deciding to pay any of my hard-earned money for a course.

Ramit Sethi is not only famous for his best-selling book I Will Teach You To Be Rich, but he has also come up with many online courses over the past decade.

Yes, decade.

As one of the OGs when it comes to personal finance and money, can you actually trust him when it comes to building your own business and making more money?

Well, this is what this review aims to do – help you with the decision!

Before I start with the post, a quick disclaimer that I’m by no means associated with Ramit Sethi or any of his companies and courses. So trust me that I’m not profiting in any way should you decide to get his course(s).

Anyway, without further ado, let’s get started!

Is Ramit Sethi a scam? Here’s the truth…

Here’s an overview what I’ll discuss in this Ramit Sethi review:

Who Is Ramit Sethi?

is ramit sethi a scam

I first knew Ramit Sethi from his free YouTube videos on salary negotiation. But he’s not exactly a job coach or anything like that.

Based on Wikipedia, Ramit Sethi is an American public figure when it comes to the personal finance and entrepreneurial sphere.

He has published a few books with one of them became a New York Best Seller – I Will Teach You To Be Rich. That’s also the name of his website.

It sounds super scammy, but let us hold our judgement.

Like any blogger out there, Ramit Sethi started his website more than 10 years ago, circa 2004. The website didn’t have much traction at first but users started coming in afterwards leaving comments and some interaction.

And for any website owners or bloggers out there, some interaction with our readers is HUGE. It gives some sort of validation!

Ramit then started to find ways on how to monetize so he came up with his first book called “Ramit’s Guide to Kicking Ass”.

From there on, the rest is history.

As he grows his subscriber base, he starts coming up with a lot of different online courses – that are not meant to open for long.

If you have been in his newsletter subscription, you know many of his courses are only open for enrolment for a few weeks if not days.

He mentioned that it’s not meant to be a marketing gimmick, just for quality control in a way that they are supposed to be on schedule for the lessons and whatnot.

Currently, Ramit Sethi has garnered a subscription base of more than 100,000 newsletter subscribers, more than 200,000 Instagram followers, and a shy of 200,000 YouTube subscribers.

But does that mean you can trust his courses?

Before we get into that, let’s take a look at his list of courses below.

Ramit Sethi’s Courses Overview

Ramit Sethi has launched more than 25 different courses from building your own online business, how to find and get your loyal audience to finding your dream job.

The one that’s currently featured on his website is Earnable where you get to learn how to successfully launch and create your own business.

But, if you’ve been receiving his email newsletter, you will also know that he’s currently opening up his advanced personal finance course.

If I were to put a review on all of his courses here, it’ll be a very long-winded post and I’ll lose you…right… about here.

Instead of doing that, I’m going to give an overview of topics that he covers in his multiple courses:

1) Entrepreneurship

Ramit himself is an entrepreneur and many of his courses are also teaching students how to get started with their own businesses.

Ramit doesn’t necessarily give the exact business that one should do, but more of a guide on how to take it from just an idea to a full-fledged company.

Some of his other courses are parked under the entrepreneurship umbrella:

  • Earnable
  • Delegate and Done
  • Call to Action
  • Ramit’s 6-Figure Consulting System
  • Behind the Sales Page/ Behind the Sales Email

2) Personal Finance

For beginners who are just starting to get comfortable with the topic of personal finance, Ramit has an affordable book that you can get from Amazon called I Will Teach You To Be Rich.

I have personally read that book, twice.

Because I do believe in what he’s teaching, which is building a system. If you haven’t yet read that book, I recommend giving it a go.

But, if you’re already pretty comfortable with your money and you have a large sum of savings and not sure how to go forward, Ramit does have a course called “How To Win the Game of Advanced Personal Finance”.

3) Psychology

Ramit double majored in Psychology.

And he does touch about mindset a lot, even in his books. So it’s not exactly a surprise that he also comes up with a mindset/psychology course like Mental Mastery.

If you’re not sure if this is for you, I personally consume a lot of his free YouTube content on psychology. You can check them out on his YouTube channel too.

4) Employment

Like I mentioned before, I personally knew Ramit from his YouTube video on salary negotiation.

I was in the midst of going for different interviews to get a higher-paying job and his famous Briefcase Technique actually works.

I think Ramit was the first person who taught me that it’s okay to be employed. That not everyone needs to create his own business to be successful.

Though I ended up quitting my 9-5 still.

In fact, many employees can just be as successful or even more successful than business owners if they learn how to treat their money right.

Some of his courses on employment:

  • Find Your Dream Job
  • The No-Stress Guide to Negotiating Your Salary
  • Overnight Resume Makeover

Now that we gone through a brief overview of the courses that he sells, let’s answer the question of the day:

Is Ramit Sethi A Scam? Can You Trust Him?

No, Ramit Sethi is not a scam.

It’s going to be hard for someone to be a scam and still lives on well on the internet for more than a decade.

He does teach valuable lessons on his YouTube channel, his books as well as his courses.

If you’re new to Ramit, I’d really recommend going through his free content and perhaps his books first before deciding to join his courses.

Because his courses are not exactly the cheapest out there.

And that sort of brings me to the next section.

Should You Get Any of His Courses?

I personally don’t think his courses are for everybody.

Of course, if you do want to still be employed, you can get one of his employment-related courses.

However, if you’re planning to create a business online and still new to this sphere, Ramit Sethi might not be the course for you for a few reasons:

  • Only when you have capital
    • When I was first starting out my own online journey, I didn’t have that much capital to spare. Joining Ramit’s courses which are usually in the thousands is out of the question for me. So I decided to keep looking as a stepping stone for me to earn more, and be able to afford Ramit’s courses. I found my stepping stone here, on my #1 recommended platform.
  • Only when you are clear of what you want to do
    • Unlike any courses out there that’s pretty straight-forward like creating a dropshipping business (that I’m not necessarily a fan of), Ramit’s course is open to anybody in the sense that it could be applied to everyone’s venture.
    • If your business idea is to create an e-commerce store and sourcing suppliers etc and thinking that Ramit will share with you multiple ways of finding trusted suppliers, then you’ll probably going to be disappointed here.

I do believe that you will get value from joining his courses but I don’t think they are truly meant for beginners who don’t have that much money to spare.

And who’s just trying to figure out a way to make money online.

Easier & Better Alternative to Ramit Sethi’s Courses?

When I was still in search of the one way for me to make money online get consistent passive income while still being in my 9-5, I started learning more about affiliate marketing.

Ramit did mention that this could be a good way to start earning online too!

Anyway, I found a course that is free to start and if I like it, it’s a lot more affordable and easier for me to get started.

The main point that got me hooked is that I can start for free as a beginner.

I don’t need to put down my credit card details. There’s literally ZERO payment that I have to make as a beginner.

I can stay as a free member as long as I would like.

Affiliate marketing might not sound as grand as having my own specific business, but it is a business that is still giving me income today from something I’ve built and haven’t touched in 3 years.

Can you see how sustainable that is?

I too, start as a total newbie with this venture and slowly but surely make my way and now have been earning consistently from my websites.

But just how much can you earn from affiliate marketing?
