I recently got served a YouTube ad from this kid names Mikey Kass, talking about how he’s going to do a giveaway for one of his DFY (done for you) Shopify stores for all the aspiring dropshippers out there.
The one thing that I couldn’t help wondering was that “how old is this kid?”.
I just had to dig a little deeper to figure out who he is and what is he all about. And goodness gracious, he definitely got a story to tell.
He does have a dropshipping course that I reckon he’s still selling called The Ecom Good Life, which has a pretty high price tag given that the course’s outline is very simple for beginners
I’ll talk more about his course later on in this review.
Before I get started though, a quick disclaimer as always, that I’m by no means associated with Mikey Kass or any of his courses or giveaways. I’m not going to profit from writing this review on my website.
I’ll share with you what I’d found about him and at the end of the post, I’ll also share my personal take on dropshipping business model in 2021, given that I’ve done it myself a few years ago.
Now without further ado, let’s get started!
Is Mikey Kass a scam? Here’s the truth..
Here are what I’ll be talking about Mikey Kass in this review:

Fake Guru Red Flags
Before I start with my review of Mikey Kass, I want to share the video below on how you can detect some red flags from online “gurus” out there.
The red flags don’t necessarily mean that they are all scams, but you might want to be careful with the courses that they offer.
Who Is Mikey Kass?
Mikey Kass is an 18-year-old boy who claims to have gotten so much success with his dropshipping venture, racking in more than $600K in a matter of 4 months.
He has a pretty interesting background story whereby he started doing dropshipping way back when he was only 16 years old – having to “borrow” his parent’s name and bank details to qualify for opening a store on Shopify.
He’s not exactly a straight A’s student, getting 0.80 GPA over 4.0, and wanted to drop out of school altogether. And that’s exactly what he did.
To tell you the truth, this is a bit of a funny part to me.
He has a bit of up and down with his drospshipping store, having the first one shut down by his own parents when they refunded all proceeds back to the buyers. But well, that didn’t break Mikey’s spirit.
Managed to get a few other Shopify stores up, he took his proceeds and “ran away” from home in San Diego to Hollywood Hills “living his life”. He said that’s what his life is ought to be.
With his parents worried and highly skeptical of the business that he runs, he has had police officers and private investigators looking for him. Even though still getting his allowance from his parents via his student debit card.
And ever since then, he’s been living his life in the fast lane, donning expensive cars on Instagram and recording a life of a high-school dropout video on YouTube.
I am not sure about you guys, but looking at how reckless Mikey has been with his life, he’s unfortunately won’t exactly be someone that I will look up to, no matter how much money he’s able to generate with his online business.
And with the attitude of life like Mikey’s, coupled with the fact that he’s still at a very young age, it’s extremely easy for money to come and go.
But before I digress too much on my opinion of Mikey, let’s take a look at his famous course below first.
Mikey Kass’s Courses Overview
One famous dropshipping course done by Mikey Kass is The Ecom Good Life.
This is the course or rather a “blueprint” says Mikey of how he built his own dropshipping store, scaled it, and generated over $100Ks a month.
He says that he will show everything that he has learned over the 4 years experience he had doing dropshipping to make money online, like:
- How he always finds a winning product to sell
- How he managed to maintain a high % net profit
He also includes a few things to his course that many other courses never include like a playlist of music to lift your spirits and how to live a well-balanced life.
Even though he included these topics, he also left some others, perhaps more important parts of dropshipping like the intricate how-tos of scaling the business via outsourcing and other traffic method outside of Facebook & Instagram ads.
Anyway, in a nutshell, here are the modules that you’ll be getting with Mikey’s course:
- Facebook and Instagram Ads for traffic generation
- Shopify store creation from start to finish.
- Winning product research methods when finding products to sell, to make sure you are not trying to sell something that’s not in demand.
- The mindset of working in this business model and finding your team.
- Music playlist that Mikey likes, in hope that others will find them motivating too.
With The Ecom Good Life, you will still get to learn how to set up your own dropshipping business. The question is that whether the price tag of $497 is worth it for you.
$497 to get a course done by an 18-year-old who’s had success in dropshipping.
Everyone will have different opinions on this but below is mine.
Is Mikey Kass A Scam? Should You Trust Him?
Mikey Kass reminds me a whole lot of Max Trubitski.
Not only both of them are of similar age, but they both also went into droshipping model to generate money online and have similar marketing gimmicks to promote their dropshipping courses.
Like offering limited highly converting Shopify stores that’s done for you at a very low-price tag, only to get them to buy a more premium course.
I can’t say for sure that Mikey Kass a scam – mainly because of legal reasons.
But one should be highly cautious before buying anything that he offers. You might want to grab a better course from a more reputable dropshippers who have been doing what he teaches for at least more than 5 years.
If you have watched the red flag video above, one of the point that he mentions was “gurus” at the age of below 35. And I agree with him. I personally wouldn’t look up to someone who hasn’t been in the space for more than a decade.
Years of experience will teach you more things rather than a one time success, I believe.
Apart from that, as of the time of writing this review, Mikey has made all of his videos on YouTube and Instagram accounts private. For what reason, I simply don’t know.
This goes back to my point of Mikey still being a young boy who is temperamental looking at how he’s been living his life and presenting himself online.
With all these said, I know that I cannot vouch for Mikey Kass. Not of him being a business coach and his dropshipping course – especially with his course’s price tag.
I’m not an affiliate to any of them but knowing how much value they gave even on their free YouTube channels, I’m sure you can learn a lot more from them than with Mikey.
But, in any case you’re still new to the dropshipping business model, if you had just learned about this rather recently, please allow me to share some of the things I had learned back when I was still making money with dropshipping, about 4 years ago now.
Is Dropshipping Still Worth It?
I know that eCommerce is still growing year by year, especially now that many of us are stuck inside the house. eCommerce has indeed, truly changed the game for us.
That said, it doesn’t mean many solo stores like dropshipping on Shopify can thrive under this eCommerce boom – simply because there are giants in the industry like Amazon that can guarantee shipping time and offer a lot more variety within a single receipt.
Here are 4 reasons why I no longer think dropshipping busines is still worth it:
1) Only When You Have Capital
Dropshipping is definitely NOT for someone who is strapped with money. There are other expenses that you will need to pay for such as:
– Shopify hosting (monthly)
– Domain name (annually)
– Transaction Fee (every purchase)
– Facebook Ads (daily)
– Instagram Influencer
– Additional paid apps (monthly)
– Outsourcing (hourly or monthly)
Therefore, unless you have AT LEAST $3,000 to spare to start this business model, dropshipping unfortunately is not for you.
You’ll be spending at least $2,000 to get started with Facebook Ads – and that won’t guarantee any sales coming in anytime soon.
Please don’t go into debt trying to make this work. There are other better online business opportunities that you can start off that won’t require you to spend this much money upfront.
2) Vicious Cycle
If someone argues that you will be able to take home $2,000/mo if you get to make $10,000/mo, I’m so sorry to break it down to you but that $2,000 will need to be re-invested to find another winning product and be spent for Facebook Ads testing.
A lot of beginners are not aware of this vicious cycle and would expect profits coming in within the first few months while spending money like running water.
I know it’s a natural situation for businesses where you have to roll your money back to the business, but it shouldn’t be when you’re just starting out your very first online business. And especially when you don’t have prior business experience to handle the cash flow.
3) Nightmare Customer Support
With dropshipping, you will not have any control with the production and the shipping of the very products you are selling.
But yet, if there’s any problem with the product or shipping, you will be the middleman trying to resolve this problem.
If you get a lousy supplier, there is very little or nothing you can do to resolve customers complaints.
That is one reason many dropshipping stores do not have returning customers and their cost per acquisition is really high.
The worst part is that there might be a lot refunds and chargebacks being lodged and you end up having to return many of the sales back and being banned from your payment gateway.
It’s so popular among dropshippers that many dropshipping courses now include handling refunds and chargebacks as a module. That tells a lot, isn’t it?
4) Not The Best Business Model
As I’ve mentioned in 2021, dropshipping isn’t exactly the best business model out there. A lot of people already know the trick of “free product + shipping” and asking them to wait for 2-3 weeks for product delivery is a deal-breaker.
Put yourself in the customer shoe, will you go and buy a product from a store that will take 2-3 weeks to ship the products to you or you’d rather go to Amazon.com and get your products delivered the next day?
I’d go with Amazon.com. And that brings me to the next point.
