So you might have come across Derrick Struggle’s YouTube videos on Amazon FBA and thinking of joining his course. But you can’t keep wondering “is Derrick Struggle a scam?”..
Well, that would at least be my personal first few thoughts before signing up on a course.
Derrick Struggle looks like someone who has had tremendous success in eCommerce and online business in his YouTube videos, but nothing has come up as evidence to show as proof.
Does that mean everything he’s teaching is a lie?
This is where this review comes in!
Before I get started with my review, a quick disclaimer that I’m by no means associated with Derrick Struggle or any of his courses, so this will be my unbiased, third-party review.
I’m not going to profit in any way should you decide to get his course.
Right, now that everything is clear, let’s get started!
Is Derrick Struggle is a scam? Here’s the truth…
Here are what I’ll be talking about Derrick Struggle in this review:

Fake Guru Red Flags
Before I start with my review of Derrick Struggle, I want to share the video below on how you can detect some red flags from online “gurus” out there.
The red flags don’t necessarily mean that they are all scams, but you might want to be careful with the courses that they offer.
Who Is Derrick Struggle?
There isn’t that many information on Derrick in terms of his past lives or his past Amazon FBA stores.
But in a quick glance, if you go through his Instagram account, he looks just like any hustling millennials out there, showing off his cars, his house, and his travels.
Do it for the gram, they said!
And if you do follow him on his YouTube channel, he produces content mainly on Amazon FBA business and entrepreneurship.
He now no longer uploads a new YouTube video, his last upload was back in July 2019. I believe he was going to focus mainly on his journey of building Struggle HQ, which hasn’t come to much fruition based on his Instagram post.
He does update more on his Instagram account though, so you can still keep up on what he’s been up to there.
That said, he still has his Amazon FBA course up and running if anyone would like to know more about building a business with Amazon.
So, let’s go through what he offers in his famous Amazon FBA Heroes course below.
Amazon FBA Heroes Review
There are a total of 17 Modules in this course, priced at $997.
Or 2 payments of $597.
It’s been updated and gotten a lot more comprehensive since the first time it launched. They used to only have a few modules but now they have added a lot more modules that you can learn from.
Might be due to some complaints from students saying that they weren’t able to find detailed answers in the course.
Anyway, before I digress any further, here’s the breakdown of what you’re going to learn:
- Welcome to FBA Heroes
- Setting Up Your Foundation
- Shopify Dropshipping, Marketing and Branding
- Leveraging the Power of Amazon
- Setting Up Your Seller Central Account
- Selling on Amazon USA as an International Seller
- Building a Powerful Amazon Brand
- Product Research
- Market Research
- Contacting and Finding Suppliers
- Creating and Crafting Your Listing
- Product Photography
- Launching Your Product, Ranking and Getting Reviews
- Building Your Amazon Portfolio and Scaling
- Leveraging Social Media to Dominate w Danny Perez
- Facebook Ads & ClickFunnels
The course will teach you the way for you to start your Amazon FBA course. It’s enough but it’s not exactly THE course that will help you from A to Z until you build and scale your business to the fullest.
Many of the content are also like a rehash from the readily available content out there that you can find.
Of course, if you want to find a shortcut and have a lot of things laid out to start this business, buying a course can help you.
The value of this course with its price tag will be different from one person to another. If you’re totally a beginner, this course might be very good for you – though there’s an argument of the price tag for beginners.
But if you’re not exactly a beginner on this business topic, you might not find extra tricks in the course because some of them have been covered by other gurus or in YouTube videos.
To me, personally, I wouldn’t recommend the course to beginners for a few reasons that I’m going to cover in the next section.
But before I get into that, let’s answer the question of the day first.
Is Derrick Struggle A Scam? Should You Get His Course?
No, Derrick Struggle is not a scam.
I see him as a struggling millennial trying to find his ways and builds his own name and business out there. Looking at his Instagram account, I feel like he’s still finding his purpose.
That brings me to the reason why I don’t take online courses from young entrepreneurs…
Simply because you will want to learn from someone who’s been in the business for decades and know the history of the business inside out.
That doesn’t mean Derrick Struggle is a scam but you really have to think about where you’re getting your information from.
One thing that Derrick doesn’t include in the course is how challenging the Amazon FBA business can be.
It isn’t exactly a side business that you can do anytime.
And this brings me to the next section where I’ll explain why I won’t recommend Amazon FBA to beginners who just want to earn extra income.
Is Amazon FBA Still Worth It?
1) Large Upfront Capital
Paying for the almost $1,000 course is one thing.
But you also have to spare some money to pay for the orders that usually have an MOQ (minimum order quantity), extra money to pay for the shipping, branding or white labelling. And that doesn’t include the brand logo that you will need to create.
Once you get into Amazon FBA, you will need to pay for the handling fees for every sale you generate as well as the state taxes.
Also, you will need to think about the advertising budget that you will need when you first get started. This is key for you to penetrate the Amazon market.
If you don’t have at least $15,000 to spare to create this business – that you honestly won’t mind losing, this might not be a “side hustle” that you want to get into.
2) It’s VERY Complex
If you’re a beginner with no business background, this business model can be extremely complex.
You will be dealing with the inventory and you will need to figure out the optimum number of inventory to be in hand, when exactly you’re going to be profitable and when to place the next order.
You need to prepare those numbers since you need to take into account the shipping times etc.
Apart from that, you will need to equip yourself with different state laws. Different Amazon warehouse, will have a different state law depending where they are located.
It is one of the reasons why Amazon FBA can be extremely tedious for beginners to start.
You will definitely need to spend a lot of good hours everyday to handle this “hustle”.
3) High Competition in Amazon
Amazon in itself is already very competitive. For any good products that are listed on Amazon, Amazon as the company will also create a similar product with a cheaper price.
Therefore, you won’t only competing with normal sellers, you are also competing with Amazon.
And Amazon products will come first in the listing 😊
So if you’re new, you probably won’t get to price your product very high and that in return will lower your profit margin.
Which will be difficult for you to continue scale the business.
4) It Takes Time
First, one thing you need to know is that nothing good comes quick. No matter what side hustle you do.
Unless you just do online surveys.
But with Amazon FBA, you will be spending a large capital and it will take a long time to get that money back and turn profitable.
Your cash flow will flow slowly when you’re first starting out.
Since you will be putting money today to order those products and it will take weeks for them to properly being stored in Amazon FBA.
Even when your cash flow starts flowing, it doesn’t mean you will become profitable right away.
To me, the whole business model with Amazon FBA is not only very risky, but it also takes a lot of time to manage.
Which is something that I’m not a fan of because when I first start side hustling, I was still in my 9 to 5 and I don’t have that much time to spare everyday to handle the business.
I want to find something that’s more stable and something that will generate income passively to my wallet.
And that brings me to the next section.
Easier & Better Alternative to Derrick Struggle
When I was still in search of the one way for me to get consistent passive income, I started learning more about affiliate marketing.
I found a course that is free to start and if I like it, it’s a lot cheaper than Derrick Struggle’s course price.
But the main point is that I can start for free as a beginner. I don’t need to put down my credit card details or upgrade within 7 or 14 days.
There’s literally ZERO payment that I have to make as a beginner.
I can stay as a free member as long as I would like.
Affiliate marketing might not sound as grand as becoming an Amazon seller, but it is a business that is still giving me income today from something I’ve built and haven’t touched in 3 years.
Can you see how sustainable it is?
